BRU Joins National Effort to Raise Federal Funds for Transit Operations
The Bus Rider's Union gathered signatures outside of the Wilshire-Western Subway stop this morning, joining advocates around the country in building support for Federal Legislation H.R. 2746, which would allow transit agencies to spend more of their federal funds on day-to-day operations. Nationally, efforts were organized by Transit Riders for Public Transportation (TRPT) a national coalition focused on bringing "environmental justice and civil rights priorities to the upcoming federal surface transportation act."

iPhone Apps That Might Make Your Bike Ride Safer, Certainly More Fun
Wired gives us a look
at a number of bicycle-related applications for the iPhone, including
Back Light, which allows you to tell cars following too closely on your
back wheel exactly what you think they should do with themselves
("Stop!," of course). I'll admit I would put a lot of other choice
statements there, but that's because I'm not as sensible as you, dear
readers.

Dems. in Senate Pushing Transit Into Climate Change
Addressing a climate change forum this morning, two Democrats on the
Senate environment committee said they are pushing for transit and
other green modes of transport to get 10 percent of the revenue generated by the upcoming Senate bill regulating carbon emissions.

Vancouver Gives a Bridge Lane to Bikes
New York isn't the only city that's experimenting with closing roads to improve traffic and create better conditions for pedestrians and cyclists. Today, from Streetsblog Network member Human Transit, we hear of a bridge in Vancouver where a lane of car traffic has been given over to cyclists:
