Dems Release Stimulus Draft: $30B for Highways, $10B for Transit
Via Greater Greater Washington, the Huffington Post is reporting that House Democrats have released a draft summary of an economic stimulus bill, and at first blush there's little for green transportation advocates to cheer. $30 billion is slated for highways, $10 billion for transit -- a marginal improvement over the longstanding 80/20 split in federal funding. Road Rage Dr. Thompson Arraigned on 7 Counts (Updated)
Stephen Box spent the morning at the La Cienega Courthouse to bring us the news on the progress of the trial for Dr. Christopher Thompson, the "road-rage" doctor that allegedly tried to kill a pair of experienced cyclists on July 4th for riding two abreast on a two-lane road. Bike, Ped Improvements Part of Portland’s Stimulus Plan
A couple of hopeful pieces of news from the Pacific Northwest, courtesy of Streetsblog Network member Bike Portland.
First off, their fair city has put some exciting bike/ped improvements
in its stimulus package request, including the design and construction
of a bike-and-pedestrian-only bridge, as well as Portland's first-ever
cycle track. The plans call for starting the projects within the next
12 months.

It May Be Slow, But Transit Projects Still Moving Forward
For those of you that missed it, last week Metro announced that it will be suspending its vote on the Long Range Transportation Plan until after issues with the budget mess in Sacramento and stimulus plan from Washington D.C. are resolved. However, just because discussion of strategic planning is off the table doesn't mean that the planning for new transportation projects is completely stalled.
