An Exercise in Imaginary Transportation Systems
City planner James Rojas and Site LA "Visionary in Residence" Dorothy Le
will team up to share and explore their visions of the intersection
between cities and automobiles. Using a medley of recycled materials
and 3-dimensional forms, participants will build model transportation
systems and discuss their land use impacts. This exercise highlights
trade offs between transportation and what is best for the good of the
community.

WTS Lunch Seminar – Richard Thorpe
No one
likes congestion. But what can be done about it? For Los Angeles's
Westside, the Exposition Light Rail project is one answer. And on
September 17th in a luncheon reception, Exposition Construction
Authority Chief Executive Officer and Metro Chief Capital Management
Officer Richard D. Thorpe will explain exactly how the Expo line will
help, as well as update WTS-LA members on the project's progress and
the status of other Metro capital projects.

Richards Fires Back at Parochialism in Sales Tax Debate
The Southern California Transit Advocates' Kymberleigh Richards penned an op/ed for today's Daily News that punches a hole in the argument that Metro's sales tax proposal is unfair to some parts of the county because funds aren't distributed based on residential population. To wit:

Who Loves Traffic? Dan and the Highway Lobby
U.S. PIRG has picked a winner in its "21st Century Transportation" video contest, and it's this irony-soaked entry. Meet "Dan," a guy who just can't get enough stop-and-go time on the highway. He loves sitting in traffic, and the last thing he wants to see is adequately funded transit giving people an attractive alternative to car commuting.
