Coming Soon: Bike Bill of Rights
As abstract and lofty as a BBR seems, it is just a way for bikers to get what they want. A BBR works to our benefit in four ways. First, it documents the common needs of all cyclists. Second, it provides public officials a basic criteria for determining whether a program will benefit cyclists. Third, politicians will gladly commit to it now, enabling our community to hold them accountable later. Finally, it gives the community a rallying point that energizes other efforts.These are complex points, so let's flesh them out:

Input Wanted?
Tomorrow marks the beginning of Metro's "service modification" hearings which will cut 200,000 hours of service from bus routes across the region. The agency has made some effort to get the word out posting flyers in buses and sending out a press release back in Mid-January. The release says, "Additional details about these proposals can be accessed at www.metro.net," but I'll be darned if I can find any additional details.

City Council Promotes Cash Out Parking
Back in 1992, the State of California passed a law mandating that employers with more than 50 employees, in an air basin designated non-attainment area, who provide subsidized parking for their employees, offer a cash allowance in lieu of a parking space. Unfortunately, implementation has been slow because the state failed to define the penalty for breaking this mandate or to even require that businesses report on following this law.
