Thanks to our bike month partners: In an effort to make Bike Month accessible to everyone in 2011, we put together a Bike Month page featuring all the events we could find.  We received suggested events through Facebook, Twitter and good old fashioned email. All the bike month events we could find. May 7 Santa Monica Festival This year's festival has a special emphasis on bikes, bikers, and bicycle culture in the city by the bay with City of Santa Monica bike valet, a bike maintenance workshop with Bikerowave, Santa Monica Planning & Community Development bike learning area, Santa Monica Museum of Art Ticket to Ride, and Bike Exhibition with Santa Monica Spoke. Clover Park - 2600 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica, 11 A.M. to 6 P.M. Silverlake - Building a Better, Bike-able Los Angeles with Alexis Lantz As part of Sustainable Saturdays, our own Planning & Policy Director Alexis Lantz will provide an overview of the new City of LA Bike Plan and what it means for Silver Lake. Learn more about bicycle infrastructure and how what's good for biking is good for the environment and our local economy. More info + Facebook event. Silver Lake Library - 2411 Glendale Blvd., Silver Lake, 11:00 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Malibu - Bike Safety with Sen. Fran Pavley This fun, informative and potentially life-saving event will include a miniature city for children to learn safe riding skills, such as the use of helmets. The event will also include an update on legislative efforts to improve transportation safety. Safe Moves will sponsor a drawing for a bike and safety helmet. Will Rogers State Beach, Parking Lot #3, Entrance at PCH and Temescal Canyon, 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Antelope Valley Ride Support the AV Conservancy and ride for wildlife and wild lands. Harvard St. Come learn basic bike repair skills like how to fix a flat, that will help keep you rolling on bike to work day and beyond.  Bike racks are located in front of the library. Library Visitors receive 3 hours FREE car parking across Harvard at the Marketplace parking structure with validation at the Loan Desk. 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. May 11 Long Beach - Free JAX Bike Safety Checks in the CSULB Quad. Stop by for a free 12-point bike safety inspection: brake checks, tire straightening, chain tension, lubrication, smooth gear shifting and other essentials for a safe ride. Every second Wednesday of the month, 11 am to 1 pm Long Beach - California Bike Coalition Fundrasiser at Bikestation At Thursday’s party the CBC will introduce its statewide Give Me 3 campaign (givemethree.org) to promote passage of Senate Bill 910, authored by Long Beach Senator Alan Lowenthal. Co-sponsored by the CBC and the City of Los Angeles, SB 910 would require motorists to give bicyclists three feet of clearance when passing from behind under most conditions. May 12 Beverly Hills - Bike Safety Workshop Take a Bicycle Safety Workshop, offered by Sustainable Streets in conjunction with Beverly Hills Bike Week. The class, which covers everything from night riding to flat tire repair. Roxbury Community Center, Room 102, 471 S. Roxbury Dr., Beverly Hills, 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. May 13 Long Beach Bicycle Festival, Downtown Long Beach Associates will host two days of events surrounding the Tour of Long Beach, including a Friday night Carbo Load and Fun Fest featuring an outdoor vendor festival, stunts and fixed gear bike competitions, and live music. The family-friendly Finish Line Festival on Saturday, held on the lawn area of The Pike at Rainbow Harbor, will feature a vendor fair, children's activity area, bike safety and education booths, live music and delicious food. Over the years we noticed that there were no Bike Week events for West Los Angeles outside of a handful of stations on Bike to Work Day. Thus, Streetsblog will be hosting the first annual Westside Ride to the Pier on Saturday, May 14. We’ll start at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church at 11555 National Boulevard and ride down Barrington to Venice Boulevard. From there, we’ll head east to Abbot Kinney and turn left down to Washington Boulevard. From there it’s a straight shot to the ocean, after a brief stop at the Bikerowave. Glendale - Iced Cream Ride! Ride with us as we visit Glendale purveyors of unique and delicious ice cream. The ride is free but you will need money to purchase the ice cream. Ride will be at a slow, easy pace with some hills (nothing too difficult). Distance will be approximately 12 miles or less. Meet at the Colina Drive gate at the north end of Verdugo Park at 1:00 pm. Bicyclists of all levels from beginner to experienced will take a leisurely 31-mile circuit through Long Beach parks and scenic neighborhoods, and along beaches, inland bays and the downtown waterfront. A 4-mile family fun ride along the city’s beach bike path is perfect for riders of all ages. Kick-off event for Metro's Bike Week. They usually have politicians and Bart Simpson or something at a press friendly event. It's usually fun. North Hollywood Station Red Line, 8:30 A.M. Pasadena - Streetfilms Film Festival L.A. Streetsblog will screen short bicycle films and lead discussions on how we can re-envision our streets. Come learn how we can make the city of Pasadena more bicycle friendly. This public event will give attendees a chance to watch bike films and speak with policy advocates working in Los Angeles. Pasadena - Mayor’s Bike Ride & Family Night The Mayor’s Bike ride will be an opportunity for the city to come together for a family-friendly bike ride with Mayor Bill Bogaard. This event will include vendors, entertainment, and prizes for children and adults.
  • Opening Remarks – Begins at 5:30 with Mayor Bogaard and an introduction of elected officials.
  • Group Bike Ride – Departing at 6:00pm. The bike ride is 2.5 miles and will include both new and experienced riders, and families. It will be a slow paced ride (10 mph) with designated ride leaders from C.I.C.L.E. and police escorts managing traffic.
  • Family-Friendly Event – The ride will return to City Hall at 6:30pm for family activities, vendors, and prizes.

That was awesome."][/caption] Pasadena - A Taste of Fair Trade C.I.C.L.E. will lead a workshop demonstrating how to transport groceries and goods using a bicycle. Workshop attendees will have an opportunity to win raffle prizes and visit vendors. Following the workshop will be a “A Taste of Fair Trade” ride giving attendees a tour of Pasadena businesses that sell Fair Trade food and products.
