Yesterday, the governor announced transit capital grants: $231 million for the Metro Southeast Gateway Line, plus funding for Big Blue Bus, UCLA, Metrolink, Foothill Transit, Amtrak Surfliner, and more. The first phase of the SE Gateway Line is estimated to cost $7 billion, so more funding is still needed – but $231 million will get pre-construction utility work underway, with a groundbreaking next week.

Also yesterday, Metro’s Construction Committee approved extending the A Line (formerly Gold Line) from Pomona to Montclair. Final board approval next week should get construction underway for c. 2030 completion.

Westwood’s new Broxton pedestrian plaza is soft-opening this weekend; join the festivities tomorrow through Sunday. While you’re there check out the nearby Breath(e): Toward Climate and Social Justice exhibition on view at the Hammer Museum – including a panel discussion event this Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
