In 2019, Jermaine Petit and his mother, Charlotte Blackwell, sat down with ABC7's Carlos Granda to talk about his mental health issues and the many run-ins he'd had with law enforcement before he was able to get help and access to supportive housing. Petit was shot by LAPD at Bronson and King on July 18.

In January, 2012, community members "cruise[d] Afro-central down the River Crenshaw," as poet Conney Williams' verse reads, to the base of "Elixir." The brief pilgrimage along the corridor from Coliseum to Stocker for the dedication of Patrick Henry Johnson's mural honored the connections between people, place, and the creative process.
