What a disappointing fee structure proposed for Santa Monica’s bike share system. It seems designed to discourage use. Is anyone familiar with any bikeshare systems that have adopted daily use limits like that? Or is SM treading new ground here?

  • Miami Beach has an insane fee structure, but its because its 99% a tourist system.

The fee structure is designed to ensure that the bike share system does not lose money. Bike share system are expensive to implement and maintain. The prices reflect the true cost of maintaining it. Having advertisement would bring in additional revenue. Even with sponsorship the NYC bike share system was losing money from annual memberships priced at $99. It had to be raised to $149 to cover the costs.
