Volunteers Needed for L.A. Bicycle and Pedestrian Count

Volunteers Needed for L.A. Bicycle and Pedestrian Count

This September, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) will be conducting the 2nd City of L.A. Bike Count.  In 2009 we counted over 14,000 cyclists at 50 intersections throughout the city.  It’s time to hit the streets and do it again!

Over the last two years, many of the count locations have seen significant improvements—from a batch of new sharrows to the freshly painted bike lanes on 7th street.  This 2ndround of the Bike Count is vital because beyond pinpointing the busiest intersections, for the first time we will be able to track changes in ridership.  We have the opportunity to collect the hard data to show the positive effects of improved bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, and to continue advocating for more projects.

The more volunteers we have, the more data we can collect and the more improvements we can make!  We need your help to get out and count again. We’ll be conducting counts during the week of September 12th and holding orientations sessions across the city on Saturday, September 10th. The following shifts are available for over 50 locations:

Tuesday, September 13th: 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM

Tuesday, September 13th: 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Saturday, September 17th: 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Click here to sign up or contact Martin Lopez-Iu at martin@la-bike.org.  To donate to the count contact Alexis Lantz at alexis@la-bike.org.  Thank you so much and please spread the word!
