Metro's board will be deciding the future fate of the free world, or at least how to spend many decades' worth of sales tax revenue. There are also big meetings on extending the Gold Line eastward, preserving L.A.'s Mobility Plan 2035, Metro fare collection, city of L.A. parking, and more. Take part in Sunday's mega-ciclovía across the San Gabriel Valley: none other than 626 Golden Streets.

    • Tuesday 6/21 - Metro is hosting a meeting of its Boyle Heights Design Review Advisory Committee (DRAC) to review the proposed mixed-use development at Cesar Chavez and Soto, as well as an update of the project at First and Boyle which is currently under construction. The meeting takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at PUENTE Learning Center, 501 S. Boyle Avenue in Boyle Heights. For information, contact Vivian Rescalvo at rescalvov[at]metro.net or (213)922-2563.
    • Wednesday 6/22 - The Los Angeles City Council Transportation Committee meets to consider motions regarding parking citation fines, coordinating parking with street cleaning, and more. The meeting starts at 1 p.m. in Room 1010 at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 North Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles. The public entrance is on Main Street. Agenda posted at L.A. City website.
    • Wednesday 6/22 - Metro hosts a Citizens’ Advisory Council General Assembly Meeting at 6 p.m. at Metro 3rd Floor Gateway Conference Room at One Gateway Plaza, right behind Union Station. The agenda includes an interesting report [PDF] on fare collection, plus additional new and old business. Details at Metro.
    • Wednesday 6/22 - Metro hosts a community meeting to give updates and receive public input on the Eastside Gold Line Transit Corridor Phase 2 project. There are some new plans being studied for how to get from East L.A. to Washington Boulevard in the East L.A., Commerce, Montebello area. The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Griffith Middle School Cafeteria at 4765 E 4th Street in East Los Angeles. Details at The Source.
    • Wednesday 6/22 - LA-Más and the Sunset & Vine BID host a panel discussion on Fuzzy Urbanism: how public realm investments can support culture and build community. The dialogue takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. at Space 15 Twenty, 1520 N Cahuenga Boulevard in Hollywood. RSVP requested to info[at]mas.la. Details at Facebook event.
    • Thursday 6/23 - Mobility Plan 2035 amendments are back at the City Planning Commission. The commission will consider City Councilmembers' Price and Koretz' pernicious push to undo bikeway designations for Central Avenue and Westwood Boulevard. The commission meets starting at 8:30 a.m. in the 3rd Floor Council Chamber at Los Angeles City Hall, 200 North Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles. The public entrance is on Main Street. Agenda posted at Planning Department website.
    • Thursday 6/23 - Metro's Board of Directors will consider no less than the next 50+ years of transportation infrastructure for L.A. County. That is what is in the agency's proposed November sales tax measure. There might be a lot of board debate, or maybe not. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Metro 3rd Floor board room at One Gateway Plaza, right behind Union Station. Agenda posted at Metro website.
    • Thursday 6/23 - East Yard Communities for Environmental Justice will hold their Fighting for Life awards dinner celebration honoring the leadership of Martha Dina Argüello and Martha Matsuoka. EYCEJ has much to celebrate this year, particularly with the progress made in the fight to hold both Exide and the Department of Toxic Substances Control accountable for the damage done to their communities. Their Board of Directors' reception has sold out, but tickets are still available for the General Reception held at Tamayo Restaurant, Art Gallery & T-Bar (5300 E. Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90022) from 7 - 9 p.m. Details at EYCEJ.
    • Saturday 6/25 - L.A. Walks hosts The Other Side of Silver Lake: A Santa Monica Boulevard Walk. The guided walk takes place from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. starting from the Sunset Triangle Plaza at 3700 Sunset in Silver Lake. A $5 donation is requested. Details at L.A. Walks or Facebook event.
    • Sunday 6/26 - The sixth annual Day of the Ancestors: Festival of Masks in Leimert Park Village features a procession and live musical performances at which traditional artists, youth groups, and diverse community members engage in a celebration of the global African village, paying homage to their shared heritage through mask-making, dance, and a procession through the community. Mask-making workshops start at 10 a.m. and festivities begin at 1 p.m. at the People St Plaza at 4343 Leimert Blvd. Come for the festivities, stay for the artwalk, which continues through early evening. For more details, see L.A. Commons' website.
    • Sunday 6/26 - Black Kids on Bikes and Ride On! Bike Co-Op are back in Leimert Park Village doing what they do best: they plan to be set up at the People St Plaza with tools, bike stands, know-how, and elbow grease to help any and all who could use some assistance getting their bike running right. Come to volunteer, get a free tune-up, hang out with the community, make a mask (see event above) for your bike, and prepare to ride out with BKoB on their monthly ride that afternoon. Wrenching starts early - 9:30 a.m. - with a ride out happening around 1 p.m. Details at Facebook event.
    • Sunday 6/26 - POSTPONED!! The longest distance open streets event in the history of L.A. County will stretch nearly 20 miles through seven jurisdictions all the way from South Pasadena all the way to Azusa - connecting with plenty of Metro Gold Line stations along the way. The 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. event is called 626 Golden Streets. The 626 is, of course, both the area code and the date. Find the route map here. Share via Facebook event.
