On Saturday, December 8, ARTCRANK, a bicycle inspired poster and art show, is coming to Orange 20 bicycle shop in the East Hollywood “Bicycle District.” There’s a lot of highlights to the show, we’re personally looking forward to meeting more bicycle themed artists in Los Angeles including Nona Varnado who is making a paper bike sculpture. The event begins at 4:00 p.m. For more information, read on after the jump or visit the Art Crank Los Angeles website.
Between now and the end of the year, Los Angeles Streetsblog is embarking on a month and a half fundraising campaign to raise $10,000 to cover our basic operating expenses for the next year allowing us to focus on new and exciting ways to expand our project. ARTCRANK is one of two events that will benefit Streetsblog. We’re still working out some details on the other one, but we should be ready to announce it next week. Over the next eight days, we’ll be announcing other ways you can help us reach that fundraising goal.
In addition to continuing our regular coverage and our community based work in Boyle Heights, Long Beach, Santa Monica and South Los Angeles; we’re working on a multi-media plan to insure that livable streets issues are a part of the Mayoral and City Council campaigns, expanding our community work into Northeast Los Angeles, Downtown Los Angeles and more regular coverage into Long Beach and a new video series similar to what Streetfilms was in its initial years.
2008 and 2009 saw the launch of our website and the beginning of our daily news coverage.
2010 and 2011 saw the survival of the L.A. Streetsblog brand after the abrupt loss of our major funder.
2012 saw the expansion of our community reporting model and the launch of Streetsblog LITE.
What will 2013 hold? A lot of that depends on you.
As always, thanks for everything you do.
Read on for more about ARTCRANK. Of course we’ll have much more about the event between now and December 8.
ARTCRANK LAX will feature hand-made, bike-inspired posters created by Los Angeles artists. Limited edition, signed and numbered copies of all posters will be available for $40 each.
UPDATE: Los Angeles, the wait is over. ARTCRANK is taking the City of Angels by storm on Saturday, December 8. And we’re doing it at the newly-minted Best Bike Shop in L.A. — Orange 20 Bikes . We’ll be packing the house with bike-inspired poster created by local artists and more fun than would be allowable by law anywhere else in the world.
We’re excited to announce the artists for our first-ever L.A. show. We can’t wait to see what the talented folks listed at right will come up with, and we’ll be sharing more about them and their work as the show draws closer.
Other things to look forward to: Craft beer by Widmer Brothers Brewing in ARTCRANK pint glasses. Bonus bike parking and bite-sized snacks from Clif Bar . And a stunning paper bike sculpture created by L.A.’s own Nona Varnado out of the best paper in the world — Neenah Paper .
