Proyecto Pastoral organized the Summer Programs Fair at Pico Gardens to bring awareness to residents about the programs both adults and youth can participate at either low costs or for free this summer. Eastside Streetsblog picked up some information that was provided at the fair and is including it in the post bellow:

Salesian Boys & Girls Club on 4th and Breed Streets will have Summer Day Camp from June 25 to Aug. 3. The day camp is for children between 6-12 years old and costs $25/week. For people involved with Dolores Misison, the day camp is free.
The SBGC’s Shout program, which is run in partnership with Roosevelt High School, is an after school program for teenagers. The SHOUT program offers workshops in tutoring, college guidance counseling, fitness, music and even a support group for DREAM act eligible students. The SHOUT program is also free.

IMPACTO at Dolores Mission/Proyecto Pastoral
Imaginando Mañana Pico-Aliso Community Team Outreach (IMPACTO) will have a summer program for elementary and middle school aged youth from July 2 to 27. The program costs $20 per child and is open specifically to Boyle Heights residents. IMPACTO helps parents raise funds for those that can’t afford to give the donation. There are still 10 spaces open for the middle school group, and five spaces for elementary. The program services 160 students between the two sites at Dolores Mission and Proyecto Pastoral.
The summer program focuses on service and community based learning as a way to make the youth more aware of their environment, said Lucia Torres, director of IMPACTO. The summer program will expose youth to multimedia such as photography and video, using the arts to express themselves, and learning about life cycles by working in Proyecto Pastoral’s community garden. Recreational activities include trips to recreational pools, playing in basketball tournaments, and field trips to the California Science Center and walking tours in Downtown Los Angeles.

The program runs from 12p.m. – 6:00p.m. Mon-Fri during the summer.
