The Week in Livable Streets Events

sblog_calendar

After a couple of really lackluster weeks, at least event wise, we have an absolutely packed week!  I mean, on Saturday the city opens its public hearings on the most recent Draft of the Bike Plan, and for many of you that won't even be one of the three most interesting events of the week?

Monday - Tuesday - Wednesday - The Metro Board holds hearings on the Draft Environmental Documents for the suddenly controversial Westside Subway Extension.  These hearings probably won't see that much acrimony until next week's meeting at Beverly Hills.  However, if you're east of the Beverly Hills boundary, you probably want to check out one of this weekn's three meetings.  Get the details, here.

Tuesday - Assembly Speaker Perez hosts an open house to try and bolster support for High Speed Rail in California.  The meeting runs from the late afternoon through the night, but there are more detailed presentations at 5:30 and 7:30.  Get the details, here.

Wednesday - The city finally announces CicLAvia, a couple of weeks before the "open streets" event actually happens.  Let's hope this is the beginning of a full-court press to let people know the good news about what's happening on 10/10/10.  Read Friday's Streetsblog article for more.

Wednesday -The City Council Transportation Committee holds their biweekly meeting at 2:00 P.M. in City Hall.  The highlight looks to be a debate over the renewal of the taxi franchise agreement until 2015.  We'll have more on that a little later this week.In the meantime, the rest of the agenda can be found, here.

Wednesday - The American Institute of Architects hosts a meeting on Urban Agriculture and Open Space in South LA. You can click on the link for more information, and for a really cool picture of a guy bicycling through a cornfield towards the Downtown.

Thursday - At 9:30 A.M., in the Boardroom it's another Metro Board Meeting.  I think we've written enough previews of it for now.

Friday - The AIA is back with a breakfast meeting on land use planning and presentation featuring everyone's favorite former bus driver, Metro CEO Art Leahy, and Michael LoGrande. For more details, click here.

Saturday - The week closes with the first public meeting on the Bike Plan.  The meeting starts at 10:00 A.M. in the Hollywood Municipal Building.
