  • No gas tax hike for the climate bill? God, America, wake the f*** up. Gas taxes don’t even pay for the full cost of road maintenance, let alone the massive environmental costs of driving.

    We are in a recession, so we shouldn’t raise the federal gasoline tax a lot overnight. But how about at least indexing it to inflation and doing more after the recession? When people know the price of gasoline will rise, they start to take steps that dramatically cut gasoline use: cleaner cars, exploring alternatives to the car, and living closer to the stuff they do.

    I predict this climate bill will be a pathetic disappointment without a massive campaign of citizens demanding something better.
