Boston has recently been changing the standard meters for multispace ones. In the process, the hours have been expanded from 6pm to 8pm (still free on Sundays). This has been going on for over a year (its a slow process) and I havent heard a single complaint. Further, the parking website makes no reference to the change in hours (only a pdf showing how the machines work).

Looks like when it comes to expanding paid hours, the best way is to let someone at the parking department decide on it and not tell anyone else. If the complainer groups dont hear about it, they cant complain!
