They miss the point that some of us are okay with a gas tax! I wish they were implementing a carbon tax on the raw materials instead of cap and trade, a much simpler and more elegant solution.

"What does the EPA say about the House climate bill's likely effect on fuel prices? Its analysis found a 25-cent per-gallon increase by 2030, or less than three pennies per gallon per year -- small potatoes"
------

Small potatoes indeed. Part of the problem is that we're not planning to replace gasoline within 20 years. The climate bills under consideration seem to be content to make it slightly more expensive. That won't get the job done.

It's not surprising that the GOP will attempt to attack making pollution more expensive. They don't give a damn about the environment unless the solution is pain-free.

Somebody has to stand up and say the hard thing: stopping climate change won't be easy, but it must be done. Anything that would meaningfully address the problem will make it significantly more expensive to use the energy we overwhelmingly depend on today. That's the point. We have to stop using the energy we overwhelmingly depend on today and start using energy which is clean and renewable, even if that energy is more expensive.

Somebody's got to be an adult and level with the American people: no pain no gain.
