Well... vk was right at #11... so I will send both vk and Ramon autographed copies of my book. Available at finer bookstores everywhere. And yes - Ramon - it took some self restraint to not weave in Take Me to the River...

Awesome TH references. Not too mention the scene from True Stories with Spaulding Grey discussing "progress" using food is one of the best movie discussions of urban planning, IMO.

And maybe I found the missing song?

Hey Browne, if you're interested in the bike movement in LA reaching out to other kinds of cyclists, check out the City of Lights program.
https://sites.google.com/site/cityoflightsprogram/
And here's a link to a blog post I wrote about our first group ride with jornaleros, held on Saturday:

and btw - I wonder how David B is going to get called out on his old school perceptions of what LA is and isnt' - hope he gets a chance to ride a bike when he's here - I read some excerpts and to me, what he writes on LA was way off

Browne - I hear you and you're right - this is not inclusive and I don't remember Aloud ever charging before - I was super bummed to see this.

However was weirdly surprised in how many people who are not part of the bike scene that are interested in going - people who don't ride bikes at all but are interested in this - so for me, raising awareness and buzz about this for people otherwise tuned out perhaps maybe a win, and hopefully bring some new perspectives and leadership to the table - it's a appealing to a certain demographic tho for sure.

Hopefully I'll see you there - nothing like meeting streetsbloggers in real life :)

@Ramon - Very good... I didn't check it line by line, but there are more that you didn't list yet. (And, stickler alert, you listed an album name that's actually not a song name.)

Browne/Teka - I agree - the ticket price is a bit steep... and one of the many really cool things about bicycles is that they are so inexpensive to buy and maintain - in contrast to owning a car.

The hosts are giving 25% off discounts to members of the LA County Bicycle Coalition and C.I.C.L.E. ... and another way to get in on the cheap might be to volunteer to help out the LACBC's bike valet parking that night.

I think this is a great event, too bad it's pretty costly for a lecture on a way to get around that isn't that expensive. I'm confused I've always said the demographic for cycling seems to lean more towards to upper middle class set in regards to the bike kulture scene, but people in that scene always tell me this isnt' the case, but then I see this scene featured in LA Magazine and the ALOUD series which is usually a very awesome free event is charging 25 bucks. Who do they think ride bicycles? Who is a cyclist? Who is the planners of this event picturing?

The guys I see riding around the South LA and the Eastside, the ones that dont' have fixies, but a bike they got from Walmart or Kmart or the swap meet in clothes that says I paint building, I take out the trash, or I guard the Japanese American Theatre at night.

I'm not saying it's bad, but I'm just wondering, it just doesn't seem that inclusive to me and I'm talking along economic lines. It seems only to reach out in clinical patient doctor model, not in a "we're all the same" lets hang out model.

25 dollars in this economy is alot. It's cool that people who are into bikes have managed to keep their jobs, but for many people in LA where people falling below the poverty line this is alot.

I hope you guys don't view this as a negative comment. I have plans on going to this event and when I read about it I was (and still am) very excited. I like David Byrnes and Talking Heads and I think the concept of the book is fascinating, but you know I take the Blue Line almost every day and it's kind of been like my red pill. I want to shut up, but you know I just want to have a discussion about the issues of inequality in our society and the bike world is such a fascinating model to observe in regards to that and that's not a condemnation of the world just it's on a path with a particular kind of person and it intersects other people that before bike kulture occurred would have never happened, even for myself if I had never given up my car I would have been completely clueless of some of the harshnesses of LA. Riding my bike taking the bus I mean sometimes I wish I never knew. I was totally happy in my car. I didn't have to concern myself with other people's pain. I did, but not in a real person that I have to touch way. It was very, I read this book and saw a documentary kind of concern. Being in my car was really isolating for me in a way that I won't be sure until I'm 60 if this has been prodcutive or not.

When I first stop driving I took the Red Line and said Metro was awesome and that was pretty much it until I really started observing.
