I attended one of the public outreach meetings today. The slide show presentation is already on-line here:
http://www.metro.net/projects_studies/wilshire/images/WilshireBRT_Presentation_10-5-09.pdf

The most interesting thing was the alternatives which are on page 12 of the slide show link above. There're a couple where they would leave out small bits of the project (from Parkview to Valencia 0.7 miles at east end of project, and/or from Sepulveda to Veteran 0.3 miles at the 405 Freeway.)

The interesting alternative that I really like is that they would leave the jut-outs in the Comstock Hills area, and would use the money saved to do additional repaving. This would allow repaving on nearly the entire eastern section of Wilshire - from Beverly Hills (San Vicente) to MacArthur Park (Park View.) This alternative means no street widening in the "condo canyon" area - just using existing lanes. Much better in my opinion.

Juan,

What is the LADOT doing with all the maintenance money that should have been applied to Wilshire? Save for a small portion around Wilton, I have seen no evidence of any repaving on Wilshire btween Vermont and the border with Santa Monica. And yes I know where Wilshire passes through territory not IN the City of Los Angeles, such as Beverly Hills and the VA/Sodliers Home/Cemetary.

Erik, I see you are an advocate of an increase in gasoline taxes to augment local transportation revenues. Don't you think an increase in gasoline prices would make you more likely to take transit?
