Thanks for letting my friend and I join your ride for a little bit! Too bad we had to leave so early, but we still had a great time!

I kept my eye open for Park(ing) spaces on my ride Friday, and managed to stumble on the ones on Abbot Kinney. What I enjoyed most, though, was the confused look on drivers' faces when they saw the spaces as they searched for parking.

We rode from Hollywood out to the westside to begin our LOAD[ing] Zone event, a mobile park that we installed for a hour and then moved when the meter ran out. We had great times along the way, beginning with a visit by the Culver City Police who researched and consulted and eventually wished us well and went on their way. Little Ethiopia was wonderful, loaded with traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian, all of whom were friendly and supportive. East Hollywood was tremendous, two major parks and loads of people and activities and sustenance for the body and for the soul!

But the best discovery on our journey was at Wilshire & Vermont. A combination of aspiration, inspiration and simple unadulterated vision, there at the busy intersection, on the SE corner sits the future home of the Alprentice "Bunchy" Carter Community Park.

Thanks for hosting a great ride. I had a great time seeing all the wonderful parks and the creative energy behind them. We had a great group of riders that made the miles a lot more fun. I am adding this event to my calendar for next year.

The best part of Park[ing] Day this year was hanging out at 9 p.m. on the mini front lawn in front of my shop with a few folks from the neighborhood, just shooting the breeze.

Thanks for stopping by both parks sponsored by the East Hollywood Neighborhood Council. I was amazed by the number of people who came out from the community to meet their neighbors in a tiny "park" created in a metered parking space. East Hollywood is one of the park-poorest neighborhoods in the City, and with 88% renters, most of the residents of East Hollywood don't have anywhere they can walk with their kids to get some fresh air, exercise and meet their neighbors. Thanks to Park[ing] Day LA for bringing attention to the urgent need for green space in Los Angeles. We can change the world one park at a time.
