I'm hoping Villaraigosa can do it. The federal administration and stimulus situation is well suited to an investment in a major subway in the second biggest city in the nation. It's all about getting an injection of federal funds. No one wants to wait until 2036. Go Villaraigosa!

Why is it "hilarious" that the Mayor believes the Westside extension could be completed in 10 years? I know I'm sweating a single word, but it's kinda off-putting to see this dismissive attitude. Shouldn't we be applauding the fact that this appears to be a priority for Villaraigosa, however (overly?) ambitious his goals may be?

The Daily News did a front page story on that Metro press release about the exploratory drilling for subway extension: http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_13173205?source=rv&_requestid=1834213

You can vote to say whether or not you'd take advantage of a Subway to the Sea, and it has a neat comment thread :)
