Exactly, Fred.

Last night there was a meteor shower. If someone wants to see it they have to get out to Joshua Tree or something. That's a perfect reason to rent a ZipCar and go drive out there.

But to commute into Downtown every day in a car? That's the dumbest idea in the history of dumb ideas.

I'm glad he came out and said it. There's nothing inherently wrong with cars and they can be a fantastic way to travel. Certainly they are great for transporting light cargo and for traveling to rural areas. The problem is that a great form of transportation was deemed the de-facto national form of transportation and huges amounts of resources went into making it the de-facto form (in a VERY socialized manner by the way, to all the anti-socialism peeps on the right and pro-socialism peeps on the left). 100 years later we discover that by virtually making the car the only option, we've lost many advantages of the car (freeways were once supposed to be faster than surface streets) and are left without any other good options. Sad tale.
