Many, not all, of these cycling groups use thuggish tactics to intimidate, not educate. One lied about me here like the way they misrepresent the often violent altercations they get themselves into.

Spokker - 7:56 pm on a Friday night in the middle of summer! Whatsamatta you? Scared of the outdoors?

You're just an interest group of one trying to troll an advocacy board. And failing.

LOL. And I read above somewhere that you're a wife beater.

""You must be the change you wish to see in the world." - MG

That's DIY, that's politics, that's action, that's bicycling."

And that's fine if you want to change the world for yourself. But not everybody cares about bicycling. We are just special interests, the same as oil companies and other lobbyists, except we don't have power and money, as far as I know.

These transit advocacy and bicycle organizations are not charities. They are simply self-interested people who prefer a certain mode of transportation over others. Again, that's fine. But I see a lot of self-important tripe on these blogs and forums as if our ideas are the end-all be-all solution for the world, as if anybody who starts a goddamn car is Hitler.

These bike "meetings" are foolish and only serve to intimidate non-riders. The people in the picture above look like the fringe elements of society. They aren't going to be taken seriously. Consider that while you bitch that more single mothers aren't riding bikes. They aren't going to ride with these nutjobs.

Spokker, if you are this desperate for attention why don't you wake your wife up with some smelling salts and talk to her like a normal human being instead of resorting to violence.

No, my problem is the notion that these people are somehow changing the world. You bike because you want to, not to get a pat on the back.

Spokker,

If you're having trouble not looking like a douche bag, try striking a funny pose like the Midnight Ridazz above. Also, lose some weight, fatty.

Biking is great and all and I support spending big bucks on bicycle improvements, but there is a group for cyclists where they don't make you pose for a photo where you look like a douchebag?

A true grassroots movement has grown where these ladies (and men) put in the time & work to allow a bike culture to thrive in LA.

Money from the government: $0. Money from corporate sponsors: $0. Official support of a politician: none at all.

DIY is here to stay.

What a great interview!

As someone who tried to help promote LA's Critical Mass years ago, and month after month have only ten people show up, it never ceases to amaze me what the first Ridazz were able to create with the simple concept of riding for riding's sake. Riding because it's a really fun thing to do on a Friday around midnight.

I especially love how Roadblock, who's website facillitated the growth of Midnight Ridazz, didn't even have a bike on that first ride!
