Damien - thanks for the clarification. Stick with what you are doing, indeed I just read too much into the word, it's an emotional issue as you know.

I will do my best to come out and support more events like this in the future for sure - I have just started commuting on my bike this past year and am really quite fired up to help! THanks again for all your hard work!

"Alta is a planning all-star that has a reputation for for producing high quality bike plans through an inspiring and empowering public processes"
The bike plan Alta prepared for Ventura County was mediocre at best. They must have been the lowest bidder.

72HW,

The LAPD skipped yesterday's Transportation Committee Hearing, not a court date of any sort. When I write up reports of long meetings of either the Council or Metro I usually alternate between the words "hearing" and "meeting" so I don't end up writing the same word over and over again. If this is confusing for anyone, I can just stick to "hearing" which is the more technically correct term.

Great report Damien.

I'm sure the LAPD's response to the no-show is that they needed every officer available for the parade happening that day. Regardless, I plan on being there next week at the meeting. Hopefully we'll have two minutes for comments.

The Transportation Committee heard us loud and clear. This bicycle plan is dead in the water. They also learned that there's a large constituents of cyclists eager to put forth a galvanizing plan.

Roadblock, I would have suggested that they give you the rest of the consulting fee that was wasted on that Boulder group. Volunteer to do this? paaalleezzzzzzzzz

I am confused as to the Hummer Incident - the above report states "LAPD no-showed the hearing so there wasn't a report."

Did the LAPD really no show a leagal hearing on the matter? I find that hard to believe.

I assume this is a simple typo meaning to state the LAPD did not care enough to come to this meeting and defend themselves. Correct?

What a great report on the meeting either way. Many thanks for your time and efforts!!

It was nice to be able to speak to the council members fairly candidly.

Really great to see so many cyclists out there packing the room....

Joseph from the bike oven first pointed this out to me... as long as the LADOT's directive is quantified by the amount of vehicles passing through a street rather than amount of people.... we're fucked.

Thanks for such a detailed report, Damien.

I was torn on this one — really wanted to be there, but just couldn't make it work with my schedule. On the other hand, I really thought they'd reschedule when the conflict with the Lakers parade developed. And as the turnout from the committee members clearly showed, they probably should have. Guess it was more important for Bernard Parks to have that live phone interview about the parade on CNN this morning.

I do hope someone from the police department can make it to the next meeting. I'd really like to know how it is that the LAPD can't afford a free bike training program developed in conjunction with the NHTSA (http://massbike.org/police/).

Correction: LAPD was there--one officer was sitting in the back of the room playing sudoko--don't know why this seemingly random yet silent officer was there, but here he is. Pix: http://tinyurl.com/l2wy5d I don't mean to poke fun at this serious issue re LAPD that could have rounded out today's lively discussions on a host of cycling-related issues. It was highly disappointing to talk about hit-and-runs and LAPD attitudes without LAPD there to hear or offer up their two cents.
