The only way to really calm traffic in Westwood is to get rid of the cars. Westwood = UCLA and with UCLA comes lots of traffic. Many cars were driving through this neighborhood well in advance of the apartment complex even opening.
When the traffic calming first went into effect, many of the residents in the area were upset and thought it was being rail-roaded. There are also other building and organizations that were adversely affected by it. So, from what I can tell, the whole situation is pretty stupid. It's also pretty stupid that I can't ride my bike from the parking lot at the University Religious Conference down Le Conte to any number of locations in Westwood.
So yeah... lawsuits...

Grammar nit - the word here is "affected," not "effected." To "effect" something is to put it into place; to "affect" something is to change it. The noun "effect" refers to the results of "affecting" something.

Why does this story make me want to turn a fire hose on the LADOT staff who make these decisions? Just get 'em while they scramble between their publicly paid for car and the security-guarded door at the CalTrans building.

"Plan B"? What the hell is that going to be? A flyer campaign and a promise of more traffic law enforcement by the LAPD? All that does is get people back into cars.

If you cannot attend the meeting, you can at least listen in by dialing 310-471-2489 or Google "Councilphone" for numbers in other area codes.

I often wonder why these meetings are not held after hours, so anyone interested can attend without having to take time off from work.
