As long as someone is being proactive about repairing potholes in the city, I don't care much if there's a temporary ad that goes along with the deal. What if a private corp. was able to get the green light on funding some of the bike projects discussed on this site? I'd be ok with a few ads along the ride if that were the case.

I don't see the problem. The markings are in chalk, and will wear off long after the pothole is left. You say that the ads don't work, and no one will see them - so what's the problem?

When I'm on my bike, in the dark, I care a lot more about potholes in the road than ads on the road.
