This state really is demented. The two-thirds rule is what lies at the very heart of the state's dementia. The Republican minority is so fiendishly anti-tax and so thoroughly insane that all budgets become impossible leading to endless bond measures and kicking the can down the road.

If they could get rid of the 2/3rds vote, not only would we get things done, but politicians would be more accountable and the minority party would be much more reasonable and would participate more in actual governance, rather than just holding the state hostage every year.

If ever a transcendent political figure appeared on the California stage again, the most good he could do for the state wouldn't be in any project, it would be in constitutional reform so that other governors could succeed.

Ah, California. My home sweet home.

There is an insane culture of ignorance in this state, and I almost don't blame our elected leaders for their actions on our behalf.

If the Governor said "Yes" to any of those questions, what do you think the headlines would read?

Since the electorate is not well informed on vital matters of public interest, the guy ends up looking like a hero for saying "No" to things that might help pull this state out of the hole it is in.

Let no one accuse us of not having ready solutions to our problems. Solutions exist! Yet there is no feasible political strategy to have those solutions implemented. If only the think tanks and professors who come up with these solutions could work to build an informed base of voters.
