I just went out and bought Kelly and Erik's book. Now all I need is a patch of earth to work (and some of that sweet DWP water or a cistern to catch rainwater).

Streetsblog, hit up Erik for your commission on that book sale!

hey josef, was that "move more cars, at whatever cost" a real direct quote, or where you using the quotes as a literary/rhetoric device?

cause if it is a quote, i'd like to know when he said it... n' such.

The mayor might be in a strange position with respect to roadway policy.

He ran his election campaign promising to deliver a traffic engineers wet dream. He has is "tiger team", he fought for more money from the MTA's Call For Projects in 2007, and he brought in an LADOT head that he thought would be able to build more roadways and speed cars up all over the city.

His modus operandi is "Move more cars, at whatever cost."

Even though building a city that is friendlier to bicycles will improve property values, increase local business retail sales, save lives, and improve the air, he would look like a giant hypocrite if he endorsed doing anything other than pave over the rest of our city and build more parking lots ... uhh I mean highways.

Sadly, I think we'll have to wait until the next mayoral election.
