How much, per mile, does a high-occupancy vehicle lane cost? How much, in dollars, are its benefits worth? Nobody ever says.

This "FREEways are meant to be free" argument should be extended to public transit! Remove the fees, 'cuz my sales taxes 'dun paid for this here bus!

All kidding aside, those freeways were not created from automobile user fees alone. General funds and bonds make up a significant portion of highway construction costs - that is money derived from all taxpayers, not just those who own cars.

I'd also like to note that the "traffic is like water" fallacy employed in this article is one that is deeply ingrained in our culture. It is frustrating to have to deal with the same false metaphor over and over again. Streets are not pipes for cars! Good lawd, we need some good propaganda to counteract that fallacious belief.
