I gotta say though, if the community put the same energy into advocating new infrastructure that it does in opposing one gate closure we would be much better off. This trail is used by commuters as well as rec riders, walkers and women pushing baby strollers. There are only 3 street safe access points on the trail. Purdue is one of them. The rest of the street are loaded with traffic and not safe for most cyclist. Hopefully this issue will be addressed in the new BMP. To close a gate because of the perceived notion that this will eliminate crime is not a solution. If crime is an issue in the neighborhood, then police action should be taken. I ride about 100 miles per week and have been riding for 50 years. Most of my trips start at of near this gate. I have never seen any trouble on this trail.
